I had a new shingle roof installed by Right Way Roofing and I am very happy with the work they did! They installed the Titan XT shingles with the Natural Timber color. The installation was postponed by one day due to some bad weather, but Kevin and the crew came out on a Saturday and the crew worked hard on Saturday and Sunday to get the job done. Everything looks great, they did a very thorough clean up, and all questions/concerns were addressed and taken care of. I would definitely recommend them!

RWR is the first contractor I've ever used that I was completely satisfied with in all my 70 years. Johnny and his crew replaced my 25 year old shingled roof in 2.5 days working 12 hour days. Some of the issues you usually worry about are being able to communicate with the workers and, are they going to up the price after they get started. I even had a few sheets of plywood and facia boards replaced that i fully expected to pay extra for, but Johnny said he was not going to charge me. All the workers were very friendly and communicated any questions I had. Johnny, the supervisor and owner of the company was very passionate about his work and profession. If I had any questions or concerns, he would stop and explain why he was doing what he was doing.
I read a google review that RWR didn't like to come to Tucson to do work. They may not want to drive down from Mesa to do a $300 repair but I live 30 minutes south of Tucson and they didn't seem to mind working here. Actually, I got 3 other estimates. They were not the cheapest (by $500) but they were not the most expensive either.
I would highly recommend this company to do your roofing replacement.
It was a pleasure meeting Lori with Right Way Roofing Saturday at the Las Sendas Vendor Fair. I think the quality of material they use is impressive, especially considering that upgrade is not being passed onto the customer. I look forward to getting a bid to replace the underlayment in our house, any client roof needs moving forward, and they will hopefully be bidding to do my parents townhome development.

Right Way Roofing does things the right way! I cant say enough how much of a pleasure they were to have do my roof. Zach Munton was my sales rep and he was a real genuine person, no sales gimmicks. He gave me all the data and patiently let me make my decision. The gals in the office were a delight to deal with as well. Everything that we agreed to was done and done well. Jerry was my site foreman and was very communicative. He listened to all my wants and took care of them within the scope of his work, even a couple aesthetic wants he took care of with a smile. Scheduling happened just as it was discussed and the roofers showed up on time worked hard and respected my property keeping an eye out for my dogs. Its rare to find a company that executes well all the way through the process but they did it with grace, with a great product , great warranty , great craftsmanship and competitive pricing. I would highly recommend Right Way Roofing to anyone with roofing needs. What a class act!

After I discovered a roof leak that has probably been leaking since the house was built in 2018 (due to poor workmanship by the original roofing company), I called Right Way Roofing. Troy came to our house, found the problem, and gave us an estimate for the repair. He provide photos of the problem area along with the estimate. After I decided to have Right Way do the repairs, they called and gave me a schedule for the job. I was very impressed because they went right by the schedule. The materials arrived on a Friday as they said. A bit later that day, a trailer arrived for the debris. That same day, Javier, their superintendent arrived to check what was needed. The crew arrived the following Monday on schedule and began the job. Javier had a few other jobs to check so he wasn’t present all day but when he was present, he sent me photos as the job progressed. The photos showed the extent of the damage which required them to replace three sheets of radiant barrier roof decking. The job took two full days. The day after the job was completed, the trailer with the debris was removed and they cleaned our driveway. While they were making the repairs, Javier sent me photos of the repairs. After the job was complete, they sent me the invoice which was for the exact amount of the estimate plus a change order for the three sheets of radiant barrier plywood which was not included in the original invoice because Troy did not have the cost of the sheets. I was completely aware that there would be an additional cost for the radiant barrier plywood. There were absolutely no surprises when I received the final invoice. I am very pleased with the job done by Right Way Roofing. As I said, they performed the work according to the schedule they gave me. I am confident they did a very good job and we should have no further problem with the sections of roof they repaired. My compliments to Javier for how he stayed in contact with me by sending photos of each step along the way. He went out of his way to make sure I was aware of how the job was progressing. I highly recommend Right Way Roofing.

We were very pleased with everything from start to finish. The quote given was professionally done & they took the time to check things first, not just give a quote based on age & size of roof. When the project began Javier provided constant communication & photos of what was being done- really appreciated that! We only did the underlayment & had some new roof tiles that don't match our "not-available" color anymore, but the new was all put towards the back & can only be seen at a very particular angle - very pleased.
They worked with us on how we could split the payment on our cc's. They did what they said they were going to do & we HIGHLY recommend them.

Right Way Roofing did an excellent job replacing the underlayment on a portion of my roof. From my initial contact with the sales person Kevin, to Candra and the rest of the office staff, to Jeff and the crew that came and did the work everything was done with the utmost professionalism. I would not hesitate to use Right Way Roofing again or to recommend them to a friend. They use high quality roofing materials and the warranty they offer is awesome and transferable should I choose to sell my house. If you are looking for a roof repair or replacement there is only one way, the Right Way!

Right Way Roofing spent time with me explaining the process and quote. I wanted a color change on the roof to one more energy efficient which was different than what I originally said, but they gave me no trouble changing the color. I have both an asphalt shingle and a flat roof (over the garage). They took care of both and had longer warranties than their competitors. I also like that they have been in business over 20 years and have a good BBB rating. The workers communicated well what the schedule was and cleaned up daily. The nice man (Vicente?) who did the final coat on the flat foam roof did an excellent job making it look nice. I would recommend the company and use them again.
Roofing Underlayment

What is Roofing Underlayment?

Roofing underlayment is a crucial protective layer installed between the roof deck and the final roofing material, whether it’s tile or shingles.

While it stays hidden beneath the surface, it plays a vital role in the long-term performance of your roof. Underlayment shields your roof from moisture intrusion, UV exposure, and wind-driven rain, acting as a second line of defense if the outer roof covering fails.

Different roofing underlayment types are designed for different durability, weight, and waterproofing needs. Choosing the right one depends on your roofing material, pitch, and Arizona’s unique climate conditions.

Types of Roofing Underlayment

Not all roofing underlayment is created equal. Depending on your home’s needs and roof design, one type of underlayment may offer greater benefits than another. At Right Way Roofing, Inc., we help you choose the right system based on local conditions and roofing material.

Here are the most common roofing underlayment types:

Felt Underlayment

Felt is the most traditional type of roofing underlayment. Also called “tar paper,” it’s typically made from an organic or fiberglass mat soaked in asphalt. It’s cost-effective and provides a basic level of protection, but it’s heavier and more prone to tearing during high winds or extreme temperatures compared to other alternatives.

Synthetic Underlayment

This lightweight, durable option is gaining popularity across Arizona. Made from polypropylene or polyethylene, synthetic underlayment is resistant to UV rays, mold, and water. It’s also easier for roofers to install, as it’s less slippery and less likely to tear. Many Phoenix homeowners prefer it for its longevity and enhanced performance.

Felt Underlayment With Asphalt Saturation

A step up from basic felt, this version is saturated with more asphalt to enhance water resistance. It’s especially useful under tile roofs, where added protection from leaks and wind-driven rain is critical. Though heavier than synthetic underlayment, it’s still a common choice for residential roofs in Phoenix due to its affordability and reliability.

Rolled Roofing Underlayment

Rolled roofing underlayment is often used for flat or low-slope roofs. It provides a continuous surface that helps prevent water-damage roofing repair, like water pooling and seepage. While not suitable for all roof types, it’s a strong choice for specific commercial or low-slope applications in the Valley.

Self-Adhered Underlayment

Self-adhering underlayment offers superior waterproofing thanks to its rubberized asphalt backing. It seals tightly around nails and forms a watertight barrier that protects against ice dams and extreme weather. Although not always necessary in hot, dry climates like Phoenix, it’s a smart upgrade for vulnerable roof areas.

Peel and Stick Underlayment

Ideal for valleys, eaves, and other water-prone areas, peel-and-stick underlayment delivers high-performance sealing. It adheres directly to the roof deck and provides excellent moisture resistance. It’s frequently recommended in roof replacement projects to improve overall system durability.

Why is Roofing Underlayment Necessary?

Even the most durable roof tiles or shingles can shift, crack, or fail over time, especially under Phoenix’s scorching sun and monsoon winds. Roofing underlayment acts as a crucial safeguard, preventing moisture from seeping into the roof deck and causing rot, mold, or structural damage.

Beyond weather protection, underlayment adds insulation, supports proper roof ventilation, and helps reduce long-term wear. In areas prone to tile uplift or flashing issues, underlayment can also provide an extra line of defense where your roof is most vulnerable.

Our team of qualified roofers offer exceptional roofing underlayment installation and replacement services for homeowners in Phoenix and will work with you to protect your property from moisture intrusion.

Is Roof Underlayment Required?

Roof underlayment is required for building codes and best practices. In Phoenix and across Arizona, roof underlayment is a required component of all roofing systems. Tile roofs in particular rely on this hidden layer for waterproofing, since the tiles themselves are not watertight.

When underlayment breaks down, your roof’s protective system is compromised, even if the tiles still appear intact. That’s why routine inspections and timely replacements are essential.

For over 30 years, Right Way Roofing has been helping homeowners and businesses avoid costly water damage and extend the life of their systems with proper roofing installation and underlayment.

Roofing Underlayment Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why Is Underlayment Important for Tile Roofs?

Tile roofs are designed to shed water, but the tiles themselves aren’t sealed or watertight. The underlayment below acts as the real waterproof barrier. Without it, even a small tile crack or shift can lead to leaks and interior damage.

What Types of Underlayment Are Used for Tile Roofs?

Tile roofs typically use felt, synthetic, or peel-and-stick underlayment. The best choice depends on your roof’s age, slope, and exposure. Our team offers comprehensive roofing underlayment installation services and will help you select a material that performs well under extreme Phoenix conditions.

How Is Tile Roof Underlayment Installed?

We start by carefully removing the existing tile and inspecting the roof deck. After that, we install the new underlayment in overlapping layers to ensure complete coverage and water resistance, followed by reinstalling or replacing tiles as needed.

How Many Years Does Tile Roof Underlayment Last?

Most roofing underlayment materials last between 15–30 years, depending on quality and exposure. In Phoenix’s high-heat climate, felt underlayment may need replacing closer to the 15–20 year mark. Premium synthetics and self-adhering options often last longer.

What Are the Main Signs That My Roof Underlayment Needs to Be Replaced?

Here are the main signs that your roof underlayment needs to be replaced:

  • Water spots or leaks in the ceilings or attics
  • Cracked, missing, or slipped tiles
  • Roof sagging or soft spots
